Who We Are
Founded in 2019 in Europe, the Tibet Culture Association is a non-profit cultural platform created by a group of Tibetans who care deeply about the living traditions and contemporary expressions of Tibetan culture.
We connect cultural communities across the Tibetan Plateau and Europe through culture, art, and people-to-people exchange. Our aim is to support a deeper and more nuanced understanding of Tibet in today's world.
Why This Matters
Tibetan culture is often approached through simplified narratives. Our work focuses on context, continuity, and complexity:
Heritage Safeguarding
How heritage is safeguarded and transmitted today
Contemporary Expression
How contemporary Tibetan artists develop new visual languages
Knowledge Documentation
How knowledge can be documented and shared responsibly
Cultural Dialogue
How dialogue can be built through cultural practice rather than stereotypes
What We Do
Our work centers on seven complementary areas:
Heritage Safeguarding & Cultural Documentation
We support long-term preservation and documentation initiatives that strengthen access to cultural knowledge for researchers, educators, and cultural professionals.
Culture, Arts & Public Programmes
We develop public-facing programmes such as exhibitions, talks, workshops, demonstrations, screenings, and educational activities. Through participatory formats, we connect audiences with cultural practitioners and artists.
Research, Learning & Professional Exchange
We facilitate dialogue between Tibetan cultural practitioners and creators and European institutions. This includes academic exchange, visiting speakers, and field-based learning opportunities when appropriate.
Supporting Early-Career Professionals & Women
We actively support early-career professionals and women in the cultural and arts fields, through showcasing opportunities, programme participation, mentorship-style guidance, and access to cross-cultural networks.
TibetTomorrow: International Cultural Platform
We founded and operate TibetTomorrow as a public knowledge platform. It features thematic dossiers, long-form cultural writing, and a growing repository of research-oriented and cultural content.
Children's Cultural Learning & Exchange
We support children's Tibetan cultural learning and intergenerational transmission, facilitating exchange and showcasing in Europe through participatory formats, workshops, and public-facing activities.
Social Responsibility & Community Support
We support the well-being and development of the Tibetan community in Belgium through long-term community initiatives, including social inclusion, language support, and crisis response.
How We Work
We aim to make Tibetan culture more accessible while maintaining professional standards and responsible framing:
Context-first Approach
Careful contextualization to avoid stereotypes and oversimplification
Respectful Representation
Accurate credits, community awareness, and ethical storytelling
Professional Documentation
Clear sourcing and sustainable formats where applicable
Long-term Relationship Building
Prioritizing continuity, mutual learning, and trust
Our Principles
- Respectful representation and contextual framing
- Equality in dialogue and long-term relationship building
- Professional standards in documentation, programming, and collaboration
- Openness to multiple disciplines, including heritage, contemporary art, education, ecology, medicine, and community knowledge
Selected Achievements
Supporting a Major Cultural Preservation Project
Since our establishment, we have continuously supported the cultural preservation project "Complete Collection of Traditional Tibetan Song and Dance."
Formats: text, musical notation, video, audio, and MIDI
Value: contributes to a structured archive that can serve scholars, performers, educational institutions, and heritage organizations with sustainable, professional resources
Building TibetTomorrow
TibetTomorrow serves international audiences with in-depth cultural and research content. It helps readers, both general and professional, access Tibet-related knowledge with richer context.
Enabling Europe-based Cultural Exchange
We have supported Europe-based exchange involving Tibetan heritage practitioners (e.g., thangka painting, Tibetan calligraphy, Tibetan medicine), as well as contemporary Tibetan artists from the Tibetan regions of Gansu and Qinghai.
These exchanges have taken place through exhibitions, workshops, talks, and other public programmes. They have created opportunities for learning, dialogue, and professional connection.
Food Culture Workshops with Tibetan Restaurants
We engage with everyday cultural heritage, including Tibetan food culture. In partnership with Tibetan restaurants, we organize food culture workshops that introduce culinary traditions, ingredients, practices, and the cultural stories behind them.
These workshops share culinary heritage as a living part of culture and create approachable, community-based spaces for cultural exchange.
Supporting Emerging Talents
We have helped early-career professionals and women in the cultural and arts fields gain access to international networks and exchange opportunities.
This strengthens professional pathways that connect heritage, contemporary creation, and public engagement.
Developing an Artist and Research Residency Pathway
In cooperation with the Tsenpo Tibetan Culture Museum in Yushu, Qinghai, we helped build a channel for artists and scholars to access field experience, research opportunities, and co-creation in Tibetan regions.
Get Involved
We welcome dialogue and cooperation with museums, art institutions, academia, civil society
organizations, and individuals who are interested in Tibetan culture.
Together, we aim to advance the safeguarding, research, and innovative international
communication of Tibetan culture.
